OUR SUMMERS
the sun’s out and we haven’t got much time so let’s live it up and live it out loud because our summers are meant to be just so!
The sun is out! She has come out to play!
Friends bellow with glee.
Faces crinkled with laughter, joyous as ever.
Come out! Come out! they call from outside,
come quick! We haven’t got much time.
The temperamental British summer,
ever the floundering lover.
But a more glorious place there’ll never be.
Our baskets are packed, swimsuits, and blankets too,
fat strawberries and champagne,
chilled rosé pink as a rare diamond.
This summer we mean to live it up and live it out loud,
bask in the sunrise and make love as the sun sets,
kiss all the boys; butterflies fluttering madly inside,
break hearts and mend friendships,
drink from bottles and dance on tables.
Summer dresses and sun hats,
high heels and a random cat!
Read books about love,
find joy in a quiet corner.
At once endless, but the summers’ end is always tellingly near,
random storms and grey clouds shroud the sun,
this cruel, cruel summer, you’ve only just begun.
Come out! Come out! The sun is out!
We’ll stay up all night, and watch her rise.
To a summer of glorious memories, from beginning to end.
